What is on a team page

Every club's overview carries its position in the division, the roster leaders by Goals Above Replacement, and the divisional rivals it is measured against. GAR leads rather than points because it prices defence, penalties and play-driving into the same number, so a shutdown defenceman and a first-line winger can be compared directly.

Four sub-pages go deeper. Standings carries the full conference table with the playoff cut resolved. Season stats lists every skater and goaltender who dressed, with expected goals and goals saved above expected for the goalies. Lines and depth chart orders the roster by GAR within each position group. History gives the year-by-year record, points and goal differential.

How to compare teams

Points answer what happened; they are a poor guide to what a team is. Goal differential is steadier, and expected-goal differential steadier still, because it grades the chances a team created and allowed rather than the ones that happened to go in. A club several points clear of its expected record is usually getting goaltending or finishing it cannot bank on.

The standings table ranks by points, the power rankings by an Elo rating that updates after every game, and the playoff odds by simulating the remaining schedule. They disagree, and where they disagree is normally the interesting part.
